So i was writing a nice long note and it all got erased somehow. So unfortunately this one will be brief.
Life's good. My goal is 10 baptisms before i leave Huber Heights. We've got 2 in December and a good number in January coming up. Lots of great progressing investigators.
Elder Evans and i are doing well. Zone Leaderish things are great. I've had to call a few missionaries to repentance this week, but nothing big.
I'm excited to hear about Chad's call. Sounds like a great fit for him. Challenging.
Don't worry about the suit. I picked one up at a thrift store this week that i should be able to make due for a while. I just need to find a member to alter it.
Omaha? What the heck is in Omaha? I don't think dad would make a very good farmer, and i'm pretty sure that's all that people do there. But you do what you do. haha.
Tell dad not to worry and to be happy. It's a commandment. "Lift up your head and be of good cheer." 3 Ne. 1: 13 -- Straight from the Angel of the Lord Himself.
Now my doctrinal note this week brings great cheer. It's my new favorite scripture. "And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up." It's important to realize that the Lord gets there before we ever do. He already knows the outcome, he's just waiting for us to humble ourselves so he can show us where to go. It's his plan, his work, and his glory.
I also think that the second part of that passage of scripture it very important. "Whoso receiveth you receiveth me; and the same will feed you, and clothe you, and give you money. " I'm still waiting for this part to happen. I would love to be recieved like that.
Be good. Have a wonderful week.
Love,
Austin

Happy Thanksgiving to You!
Life is good. We're working hard. Elder Evans and i are getting along great. We picked up some great new investigators this week. One is a mom with three kids. Her name is Patricia. She just went through a divorce, but her ex-husband sneaks in sometimes and beats her up. Not a good situation... But she's got a baptismal date for Jan 2. A great lady, very sincere and committed.
Thanksgiving was great. Very filling. We had 3 dinners. haha. One of those days you wish you could spread the meals over the next week.
Haha. Mom, by this point in your mission you were getting ready to go home. haha.
This work over all is great. Sorry i haven't filled you in one everything. We've been extremely busy. Elder Evan crashed last night and said, "if i'd know being a zone leader would be this hard and stressfull i probably wouldn't have said yes." haha. Leadership is a wake up call. Our zone covers the whole east side of Dayton. The areas are: Bellefontaine, Springfield, Piqua, Sidney, Huber Heights, Xenia, Beaver Creek, and Fairborn. We also cover the Dayton singles branch. It's a much small zone than columbus, but there's a lot of great wards.
Thanks for taking care of the ticket for me, and for the debit card. Before you have a panic attack, mom, there's not much left in my account. I bought some winter stuff, then found it cheaper somewhere else. I returned the first purchase today. So my money's in my dresser, and not my account. Sorry, just wanted to save you from a heart attack.
Oh, Southlands during the holidays. Reminds me of working with Hannah at Banana Republic. I wish i had the people skills i have now back then. I would've sold a whole lot more.
We picked up a christmas tree at goodwill this week for a couple of dollars. We had decorations in the apartment, just no tree. Needless to say, we are now properly festive.
Oh, i just remembered. I had a favor to ask. Mom, do you remember those cuff links we got for prom my senior year? If you happen to know where they are i would love for you to send them out. Elder Tanner left me with a nice french cuff shirt, and i would love to be able to wear it. Thanks.
Well, our more comedic note for the week came the other night while we were tracting. We knocked on a door and a guy answered and with a few words mormons can't say he told us he wasn't interested. As we walked away a woman came to the door and told us we could come back. She let us in. We started to talk and immediately realized she was a tad bit intoxicated. She told us she really respected what we did and asked if she could give us a hug. We said no. She continued to talk about her religious background, then all of the sudden she said, "give me a hug!" and lunged at Elder Evans. He stiff-armed her. We set up a return appointment and got out of there. I was laughing so hard i was crying as i walked to the car. My companion got raped by a crazy drunk woman.
On a more spiritual note...
I've been studying recently about what it means to "take upon us the name of Christ." It means that we're are going to do all in our power to become like Savior and progress to be like our Heavenly Father. It means we will constantly see for spritual nourishment. We will consistently learn true doctrine and apply it. Nephi was the master of this. As he would learn new truth from the Lord he would immediately look at his life and figure out how it would change his character and choices. Our choices define us, and the most important decision we make is to exercise faith in the Savior.
I miss you. I hope you had a wonderful Turkey Day!

Faith
I've only got about 5 minutes to write. I'll probably take some money out this week. As far as the white shirts go, the reason i left those at home was because they didn't fit. I had them set aside to return them, but i guess i make do with wearing them. Their are a few things i do need to buy for winter, but it shouldn't be too much. As far as christmas goes, it'd be easier for you to just add a little money to my account to buy neccesities than to pay to ship them. Honestly, a little something under the true would be a slight morale boost.
My due date for the ticket is Nov 24. The problem is that there's no cost for the fine on the ticket, so i'm not sure how much to pay. I'll take care of it though.
I'm glad Dad is excercising so much faith. Even i'm ok with utah right now. You'd be closer to me at school anyway. Plus the stability of a church job sounds great.
I'm training a new zone leader named elder evans. He's from the salt lake area. Lacrosse player. Great missionary. I'm excited.
Well that's all the time i've got. Sorry, i'll try and send some snail mail soon.
Love,
Austin

Bad News
Now for my bad news for the week. I got in a fender bender yesterday. Nothing serious, but you should get my ticket in the mail at some point. It's for failure to yield, and the cop said it shouldn't be too expensive. Let me know when you get it, and if you could make sure it get's paid i would appreiciate it. I'm really sorry about that. My guilt and stress levels are really high right now, and car accidents don't help at all.
On a good note, our investigators are doing well. If all goes well we should have a good number of baptisms in December. We've got some great progressing investigators and some that need a little work. All in all life is good though.
Our zone meeting this week was on repentance. Devin would've loved it. Elder Tanner and i had everyone write down there "favorite sin" on slips of paper and put them in a jar. We then proceeded to poor in lighter fluid and light it on fire. Repentance is awesome! haha. The doctrine was hopefully as good as the object lesson. We started by discussing a large number of definitions of repentance.
- The movement from prison to paradise
-To convert to another state.
- To turn around.
- The process of becoming like God.
and my favorite:
-Repentance is the Plan of Salvation.
It's interesting how the change that comes to a repentant sould is not based about the trials we recieve, but how we deal with those trials. I spend a lot of time trying to imagine how the Savior dealt with emotion and struggle.
Well, I gotta run. I will talk to you all soon. Thanks for being so awesome.
Love,
Austin

Timing
Life's good and busy as always. The toughest part is get the morale of the zone boosted. They're not finding a lot of people, and therefore not teaching much. That can get discouraging, so we're working to rekindle their fire a bit.
Our area is doing well. We started teaching a man named Ron this week. He's the principal of a high school in Dayton. He's also the president of Ohio's Lay Ministers' Association. He works with over 1000 ministers. So we concluded if we can convert him we'll convert ohio.
We started teaching a few other people this week including a kid that's Devin's age and a few others. Lots of fun.
Thanks for taking care of that card for me. No, i couldn't call in and cancel the card, so apparently Heavenly Father really really loves me.
One good thing this week was that I got to go on exchanges in Bellefontaine. I talked to Mike and Gina for a bit. Mike just got the Melchizedek Priesthood and they're preparing to go to the temple. Hopefully I'll be able to attend their sealing.
Ohio is treating me well so far this week. It's stayed pretty mild and hopefully it will stay that way.
My spiritual thoughts for the week concern the topic of "timing".
Elder Maxwell said, "The issue for us is trusting God enough to trust also His timing. If we can truly believe He has our welfare at heart, may we not let His plans unfold as He thinks best? The same is true with the second coming and with all those matters wherein our faith needs to include faith in the Lord’s timing for us personally, not just in His overall plans and purposes.”
Everything has a method, a purpose, and a time. (Eccl. 3:1–7) And as we learn for Nephi the Lord doesn't do anything except it be our good and benefit. (2 Ne. 26:24, Moses 1:39)
We must place our abiding trust in the hand of the Lord. His power is perfect, his knowledge is perfect, and his timing is perfect. His words will not fail. (D&C 64:31–32)
The first principle of the gospel is faith. Faith and trust are one in the same. Even the Savior has full confidence in the Father. He does not know the timing of the his second coming among the children of men, yet he is prepared knowing it will come to pass. The lord knows the timing of everything. (D&C 88:68)
There is one thing that we can control the timing of: the use of our agency in response to the trials we are blessed to endure. This is our time to overcome and apply the atonement of Jesus Christ. (Alma 34:32) "And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high..." (D&C 121:7-15, 25-29)
My last note comes from a phrase we all are familiar with "And it came to pass..." (1 Ne. 16: 1-2, 4-5, 7, 9-15, 18-28, 30-35, 39 Jacob 5: 4-7, 10, 14-17, 19-21, 23-24, 26, 28-31, 35, 38-39, 41, 48-49, 55, 70, 72, 75 Hel. 5: 1, 4, 13, 17-18, 20-21, 23, 26, 28-30, 32, 34, 36-37, 40, 42-43, 46, 50, 52 etc. etc. etc. haha.) I note this because it is a true prophecy, all things shall come to pass. We just have to exercise patience and faith.
I gotta run. Have a wonderful week.

Winter is Here!
Haha, you know me so well. I'm extremely stressed. I feel as if i'm running on fumes at times, but luckily the Lord tends to refill my gas tank based on obedience.
We had a great baptism this passed weekend. It went really well. Great talks, strong testimonies, and an excited little boy. The only thing we need to work on for next time is the member support. Only a few ward missionaries showed up.
So i keep meeting people who know my grandparents. I did meet the Bennets in Grove City. Bro. Bennet spoke very fondly of Grandpa. The latest, however, is the Daniels. Sister Daniels was Grandma's visiting teaching companion in Tullahoma. I guess they moved there just after Dad moved out, but they remember Mike well.
The Zone is doing well. We're struggling with improvement in certain areas and i have a strong belief that will improve through strengthened unity. Most of our District Leaders are relatively young, so we have to really work to help them be the example to their districts. No sisters in the zone, Mom. I don't have too many stories, but i'll probably recount a few in a year or so. haha.
The work here has been consistent for quite a while, but with some increased effort i think we can turn up the heat. We're tweaking some of our tactics which will hopefully increase referrals and productivity during our finding time.
The hardest thing about leadership is the more meetings the less proselyting time. Maybe it's the ADD in me, but i feel much less productive when i'm sitting in a meeting discussing stats than when i'm out working to improve them. Luckily, meetings are always enjoyable and beneficial when the spirit is present.
Haha, i just remembered a humorous anecdote to share with you. So, Scioto's are included a part of Columbus called, "The Bottoms." It was an incredibly poor area. Devin would say "it's way ghetto." Anyway, we were tracting in the Bottoms my last week in Scioto and had an adventure. We were contacting a man in front of his house when all the sudden we saw a black guy run down the stairs from the upstairs. He was half hidden by a wall, but he smiled and waved. Next thing we know he booked it down the stairs hopped on his bike and took off around the block. The real suprise came when we realized that the guy was completely naked. So, to sum it all up: I was exposed to ghetto booty. Kinda gross.
Anyway, my sprititual thoughts for today involve the subject of faith. Faith being the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith is a precedent of miracles. (Ether 12:12) Fear is the antithesis of faith. (Matt. 8: 26) Faith is the acceptance and acknowledgement of the Lord Jesus Christ as our advocate. It powers are ability to repent and apply Christlike attributes. (Moroni 7:20–48) Faith is the measured by our desire to make and keep sacred covenants.
Well, i gotta run. I miss you guys. Thanks for taking care of that card for me mom. Be good.
Love,
Austin

Snow Yet?
Life is good. I've learned by now how to get easily adjusted after transfers. My new address is:
5869 Prince Edward Way
Huber Heights, OH 45424
Elder Tanner and I are doing well. He's from the St. George area.
We've got a baptism coming up this Saturday for an eight year old boy named William. He's a great kid, very prepared to make his first covenant. He's mom will join the church soon too, but she has to get married first.
No snow yet for us, just plenty of nast weather. I'ved pulled out my winter stuff, and made the intelligent purchase of a wool coat at a thrift store. Christmas music would be fantasic. I getting burnt out on the music i've got now. You can only listen to the same cd's so many times... The holidays are going to feel so different this year. I've become so accustomed to missionary life that big issues in the real world seem so unimportant right now. My mind set has changed so much in the last few months.
Tell Luke to give up on the marines, get baptized, go to byu-i, and then go on a mission. If he complains, find a way to take away his agency.
One thing i would really appreciate being tossed into a package would be some of the meros favorite chewable vitamin c's. Flu season seems to be dominating our mission. So far i've been lucky, and i'd like to keep it that way.
Good things are happening in Huber Heights. I miss Scioto a lot, especially Elder Whittle and Elder Warner. It's my first time leaving an area without a sense of closure, but Heavenly Father has other plans for me.
Well, it's gonna be a short note today. We've got a lot to do. I hope you all have a wonderful week.
Love,
Austin

Light of Christ
So i've learned to expect the unexpected. Elder Warner is back in his old area, and i have now been transferred to Heuber Heights in Dayton. Elder Whittle is most likely going to stay in Scioto one more transfer. The cool thing is that Bellefontaine is in my zone, so i'll get to go on exchanges there. Now i really do feel like the big man on campus, i'm zone leader over my old stomping grounds.
My new companion's name is Elder Tanner. He's a cool guy. He was in my district when i first got to Chillicothe. Unfortunately, he goes home in 5 weeks so i have to be ready to take over pretty quick.
Mom's probably fretting about another transfer, but i'm hoping i'll be able to manange finicially. I'm going to ship a box home sometime soon, i just needed to make sure i had money to send it.
The area sounds great so far. It's a slightly more missionary minded ward than Scioto, i think. I already know all of the district leaders i'm over, so it should be relatively enjoyable.
So, my studies this week have been focused on the Light of Christ. I've learned that the two purposes of the Light of Christ are:
1. To give life
2. To lead life home
As we fuel or light of christ with the things of God we become better equipped to fulfill our purpose in this life. D&C 50: 24; Alma 34: 32
I think in one of my previous emails i noted that Light and Truth are synomous and are the basis of intelligence. They are eternal, unchanging principles. D&C 93: 29, 36. They are what empower us to grow and progress. D&C 88: 40 Truth and light (and all associated principles) are a catalyst for change. Christ is light and offers the ultimate access to change. D&C 11: 11, 28. The light is the law that all things obey. 3 Ne. 15: 9. It is the enabling power that brings us back into the presence of God.
Sorry, i flew through some of my notes, but the point is that the Light of Christ is made possible by the atonement. The purpose of the atonement is to bring back to the presence of our Father in Heaven. If we truly understand that our desire to fuel ourselves with the things of God rather than of the world is so much greater.
Well, I gotta run. I love you all. Lots going on. I'm excited. I'll try and get some notes off this week, but i can't make any promises. Tell Hannah and Sarah that their DearElders are still going to Zanesville, so they need to switch the address online. It was strange when i didn't get a note from sarah for over a month. i'll get you my new snail mail next week.
Love,
Austin
The Funnies
One p-day i proceeded to clean and organize our kitchen cupboards. When i came to the cupboard with a friend's stuff in it I discovered 3 boxes of Chai Tea. I called my beloved friend downstairs and inquired about the purpose of the tea. It's was strange to discover he had no clue that if mixed chocolate with tea it was still against the word of wisdom. I will never forget the words, "Friend, will you keep the Word of Wisdom?" Never thought i'd have to commit that one.

We have some fantastic recent converts in our Ward named Josh and Janie Summers. Elder Whittle baptized them just before i got here. They live in the ghetto and have a serious addiction to Pokemon cards. The addiction is contagious and are apartment is now infected. We built decks on p-day from their spare cards, and had a small tournament. We also occasionally have a quick battle before climbing into bed. I personally run a lighting and colorless type deck and have pondered on adding in a few water pokemon. Unfortunately, i have been forced into early retirement because Elder Whittle has a Charizard and my Pikachu always gets dominated. -- As a positive twist on this tale, we've all noticed an increase recently in our ability to see the "cause and effect" side of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our Zone meeting the past week as on how to properly use questions to teach for understanding. Elder Whittle is a big food guy, so we started with a great food analogy. "Teaching without questions is like eating a hotdog without the bun." Following these words of wisdom I proceeded to pull a hot dog out of my suit pocket and Elder Whittle pulled a bun out of his pocket. To top off the dramatic moment Elder Warner chucked a bottle of ketchup from the back of the room and Elder Whittle caught it by the tips of his fingers. Very random, Very exciting. Hopefully it will stick in our Zone's minds.

I Am Rebuttled!
Hello there,
Life is good. I've got a wicked migraine today, and for some reason those have been frequent lately. The threesome is great. We're all humorous enough to keep our heavy load balanced. Elder Warner is our comedic relief.
Our investigators our doing well. If all goes as planned we should have 3 baptisms in October. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
We taught a fun district meeting yesterday about how faith and confidence are intertwined. We can always have full confidence in the Lord because he always keeps his promises.
It's the start of a new month, so money's back in. I hate that it's such a relief. Luckily, I've built up the simple things needed to maintain life. haha.
I'm so excited that Addison is back into school. She needs to go, have fun, make friends, then go on a mission. The order of those things is up to her.
So no one's told me, what are Devin's plans for next year? Has he started preparing to apply to schools? Is he joining his sister at BYU-I? Is he going to Utah? Tell him to send me a note and let me know what's going on.
We're a two car family still eh? I've come to a conclusion since i've been out here... I will never go back to college without a car. Especially Idaho. Things are tooooo far apart. And i hated mooching. The wierdest thing was that i was a half hour away from grandma, and i didn't see her til my last day there. Never again. Plus i have to many friends in Idaho and Utah now, so i have to go visit.
Haha, I appreciate Dad's rebuttal. I don't blame him for the lack of patience. I've become very familiar with those same feelings.
My studies this week have led me to an incredible understand of the purpose of this life, and especially the need for this mortal body. One of the greatest purposes of recieving a mortal body is the ability to recieve and perform ordinances. We are tested and tried in order to prepare us to meet our father in Heaven again. My need for the atonement has burned itself into me. I've spent so much time in 2 Ne 9. As Jacob described what life would be like with the atonement my love for the Savior gained so much strength.
One of the greatest things i've begun to learn lately is how to put myself in someone's shoes. Because of that i'm beginning to live, feel, and understand others concerns. I've started to realize that i inherited a bit of my mother's stubborness. I don't let up on people or finding truth. It's interesting that the deeper and better i understand the gospel the more simply i am able to teach it.
Elder Whittle's a stud. I told president yesterday that the feeling of being evenly yoked with a companion is unfamiliar but awesome. We get a lot done. Tracting is much more efficient with two people that know what's going on.
So Deb and Amy call dibs? Tell Deb she can have me if she'll meet with the missionaries. I'll figure out how to get there if she gets baptized. haha. It's interesting. My biggest regret of life before my mission is that i didn't share the gospel more with those that i cared about.
Well, time to go. I'm so pysched for conference this week. I love you and miss you.
Love,
Austin

A State of Love
Life's good in Ohio. A bit hectic recently, but i guess i volunteered for that when i set in my papers over a year ago. Elder Whittle and i had an interesting conversation with President Jensen last night. A companionship in one of the branches in the souther part of our zone has been struggling for a while, and one of the companions has insisted on going home. To ease the pressure on him president is tranferring him out on saturday to a much more productive area. The difficult part is that it leaves his companion without a companion. So Elder Whittle and i are recieving a companion for the remainder of the transfer. His names Elder Warner. He was in my district when i was in Chillicothe. He's got some learning disabilities and will probably be a little similar to serving with Elder Picinich. We're excited though. The only struggle will be that because we live in the city we have a rather small apartment. It'll be interesting, but it's only for the next 3 weeks anyway.
Life's good though. We started teaching a girl named Hannah. She's got a very similar personality to our Hannah. It feels a lot like teaching Megan again, which makes life easy. Her grandparents are members, but growing up with an inactive mother she was never baptized. So we're fixing that. Her date is the 24th of October.
We're also teaching an older couple named Randy and Karen. Randy has a very fun and sarcastic personality. They're member referrals, so they've been progressing constantly and smoothly.
I've spent the last few days studying the doctrine of love and have found some incredible insights into the love of our Savior and how we increase our love for others. I've come to one solitary conclusion: when the safety, welfare, and satisfaction of someone else means more to you than your own -- a state of love exists. I simple and trivial as that sounds, it's incredible that our Savior is capable of feeling that way about everyone.
The other doctrinal points i've been focusing on have been centered around ageny. 2 Ne 2 has been my best friend this week. I've realized in God's eyes most things are very black and white. We have some opportunties to exercise our agency by choosing from more than one good thing, but most decisions in our life are between right and wrong. As we get in the pattern of choosing right it becomes easier and more desireable. Faith, agency and conversion are never stagnat. They are ever progressing forward are backward. Just as it says in D&C "there is a pattern in all things," and we must establish the lifelong patterns that will bring us back to the eternal presence of our Father in Heaven. They are what will determine at the judgment day whether we will wish to be buried in hid from His presence by the mountains, or whether we will be able to look into his face and hear, "well done my good and faithful servant."
Well i gotta run. Life is good. I'm tired. I'm happy. I miss you all.

Good Morning to You!
Alas, they did not leave me alone. I just got moved to Scioto to be a Zone Leader. I'm excited, but at the same time a little sad. Luckily, i feel comfortable leaving the Work in Elder Upton's hands. We rode in Alberto Mancuso's 1964 Cadillac to transfer meeting, and it was strange to see Elder Upton take off with someone else so soon. Zanesville was starting to feel like home. It was strange to sit back and analyze the changes in my style of missionary work. I work much differently than when i first came out. I'm familiar with the feelings of productivity and have finally learned some of most effective ways to attain them.
My new companion's name is Elder Whittle. You have a homework assignment. Track down his family and go out to dinner with them. He's from Parker. His family is in the Running Creek Ward. How cool is that? President Jensen said we have to limit the Broncos talk. haha. Elder Whittle's been out about 3 months longer than me. He came out with Elder Soffe. The Scioto Ward covers a small part of Columbus and a number of suburbs including Grove City and Grandview. It sounds like the work is doing really well, so i'm excited to keep it going.
More fun news... Elder Jones, who was trained by Elder Maylett, is now training. I have a great grandson. President said i'm beginning to look like Abraham. I think seeing that productivity of the elders i've trained is one of the most rewarding parts of my mission.
Alright, biggest new of the week. We were on the phone with Alberto last night talking about our ride to transfer meeting when he said, "that reminds me, Elder Montgomery has to find a ride back to Zanesville on the 13th." When we asked why he said, "Because that's the day Brianna and Karleigh are getting baptized." I just about cried. He said that they'd talked about it as a family and Brianna, the oldest daughter, and Karleigh, the youngest, had prayed and felt ready for baptism. Luara and Jossi will take a little while, but i'm so excited.
Your pictures are coming this week. I just merged them all onto a flash card to send to you. There's also some clips of the uke with a couple of songs i wrote.
If i have any input, i'd prefer to come home to that same place, although the Mero's basement would be satisfactory. At least then we'd be back in their ward.
Have you given Devin the same talk you gave me a few years ago when i complained about singing with Voices of a New Day. You said it wasn't all about me -- that's something i think Devin is learning right now.
Tell Dakota he has to get better. No more bad stuff is allowed to happen while i'm gone.
I've been so impressed the last few weeks by the influence of the Holy Ghost. It is amazing the direction that it gives us and how much it teaches a humble. The Savior really did keep his promise to not leave us comfortless. I was talking to president today about how some experiences don't seem as deeply spiritual as they used to be. He reminded me of when Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon recieved a revelation and afterward Sidney collapsed from exhaustion. Joseph's response was the Sidney wasn't used to it yet. The Spirit is such a wonderful thing to get used to. I've learned that there are 3 key elements that play into properly recieving revelation. 1: The application of past experience. 2: The exercising of agency. 3: The presence of the Holy Ghost. When those three things are present revelation occurs in abundance.
Well, I gotta run. I miss you guys. Don't move without telling me.
Love,
Austin

Greetings and Salutations!
Briefly, my spiritual insights for the week came from a study of afflictions. I'm amazed by the ability that trials have to mold us into disciples of Jesus Christ. There is no better place to learn about anxiety, depression and emotional pain than D&C 121 and 122. Afflictions are brief and give experience for our good. Here's some of the scriptures i studied: 2 Ne 2:2, 2 Ne 4:26 trials don't have to weaken us, Mosiah 24:13-14, Alma 7:11, Alma 17: 11 (Alma 26: 27; Alma 31: 31; Alma 34: 41) all about patience in afflictions, Hel. 12: 3 they cause us to remember the Lord, D&C 24: 1 the Lord lifts men out of afflictions, D&C 133: 53 the Lord was afflicted in all afflictions of the redeemed. My two favorite though were these: Jacob 3:1 the Lord consoles the pure in heart. Most scriptures seem to reprove the wicked while this one comforts the righteous. The second is Alma 62:41. I now understand the war chapters. The humbling power of affliction in war is unmatched. There are so many similarities to the wars and the spiritual battles we go through everyday. I'll have to get into those another time. I love you guys and miss you a lot.

"Good morning! I say that every week, don't I?"
I most frequently wish for normal people music, but the burden of worry doesn't really exist anymore. I've noticed over the last few months that my concerns have made a distinct shift from myself to those that i'm teaching and serving. My mindset is very different, everywhere i go i expect to find someone to teach and when i don't i'm extremely disappointed. When i first got to ohio i was just fine with a small teaching pool because it meant i didn't have to go too far out of my comfort zone, now i long to be stretched.
Yes, transfers made some changes in my life. I'm training again. My companions name Elder Upton. He's from Vernal, UT and is a great kid. He's 6' 9" and a serious although. I feel very small next to him. Training will be different this time around because i now am much more famililiar with what works and what doesn't. During my talk with Pres. Jensen, when he extended the call, he told me to work hard and quickly because the Lord has other things for me to do next transfer. So i have 6 weeks teach what it took 3 months to teach Elder Maylett. I'm excited though.
We've got some great investigators going right now. We found an awesome young lady this week. Her name is Megan Mason. She's 18 and getting ready to leave for college. We extended her a baptismal date last night for Aug. 15 and she excitedly accepted.

To Be Excited Or Not To Be Excited?
So Emma wrote this on our white board in our kitchen. It's about a week or so old, but it gets the point across. It's kind of crazy to think that Austin will be home in less than a year. Mom is just going to count Fast Sundays because it goes by faster. But something that just crossed my mind, that most don't think about, the closer we get until Austin gets home; the closer we are until Devin leaves for his mission... Go figure!

Home School
I'm getting along amazingly well with the sisters. The Elders in are district are all a little "different", so the sisters and i agreed that we keep each other sane. Just to help you understand what "different" means: I had one of the elders call me in a panic yesterday to tell me that his companion had threatened to drop kick him in the head. It took everything i had not to laugh at the poor kid... he was almost in tears... I basically told him to put his purse down and go apologize because it takes two to argue. I've learned a valuable lesson on my mission: never homeschool your kids.

Fun Stuff as District Leader
However, the Elders have been proving to be a handful. The day after transfers they decided to "test" the fire alarm in their apartment without thinging about the fact that it was connected to outside sources. Fire Trucks and Ambulances pulled in at top speed and scared all the neighbors too death. It's gonna cost the mission a bit of coinage...

Austin's Good vs. Bad News
We got this in Austin's most recent email! We found it quite funny!
So here's you good and bad new for the week. First the bad. Monday afternoon i got a call from one of the senior missionaries in the office informing me that i had recieved a citation for speeding on the previous Friday. I had caught by a photocop and the fine is $95 right off the bat. As you would have guessed, i was very upset. Especially since i've been driving 5 under the whole time i've been here just to avoid getting a ticket. Elder Parsons forwarded me the citation including the pictures of the car going through the light. As I looked over it on Tuesday I realized something was off, and then it hit me: The car in the picture was a mazda and i drive a toyota. One of the other companionships had sped through a light on the way to joint district meeting that day. So be proud. Due to your son's safe and defensive driving you do not have to deal with a $95 fine. Poor Elder Warner does though. I feel kinda bad for the guy, but not enough to wish it was me.
